What is a floral gourmand fragrance?

A floral-gourmand fragrance blends classic bouquet ingredients (think roses, jasmine, or gardenia) with foodie ingredients inspired by desserts, drinks or fruit. Combining these two profiles isn’t easy (as Floral Street’s master perfumer Jerôme Epinette will testify!), but when you get the right mix – well, the result is pure magic.

What does a floral note or ingredient add to a gourmand fragrance?

Gourmand fragrances can be rich, delicious and nostalgic (think creamy vanillas, swirls of caramel and toasted tonka beans) but they can sometimes veer into bakery-aisle territory when the ingredients are super sweet. That’s where the right floral ingredient can step in: to add balance for a cleaner, brighter feel.

Take vanilla, for example. On its own, it can feel youthful – even cloying. Pair it with a floral like jasmine, and suddenly the whole fragrance transforms. Jasmine’s heady, white-petal brightness cuts through the sweetness, creating a scent that’s bold yet refined. It’s exactly what we did with Wild Vanilla Orchid eau de parfum: a mouthwatering vanilla base, blended with delicate florals for a modern twist that feels confident, not cupcakey.

“Dessert-inspired notes are a great way to have fun with fragrance,” says Floral Street founder Michelle Feeney. “In our scents we use notes of candy floss to give a dreamy sweetness, tiramisu for a delicious, creamy edge, and vanilla because it’s comforting, warming and has a nostalgic, familiar appeal. Any good nose will combine sweet gourmands with other notes to balance them out, and prevent them from being too sickly-sweet.”

And what does a gourmand ingredient bring to a floral fragrance?

Floral fragrances – packed with rich rose petals, delicate gardenia or airy apple blossom – have longstanding, classic appeal, but can be at risk of feeling a little traditional or old fashioned. By dropping in a gourmand ingredient to the blend (like vegan honey, coffee or even a unique tiramisu accord), you can create something unexpected, more sensual, and far less conventional.

“Coffee, for example, complements other notes like cocoa, patchouli, vanilla, rose and jasmine,” says Michelle Feeney. “It’s a really versatile ingredient that makes it so popular with perfumers because of the balance it brings to sweeter notes.”

Are floral-gourmand fragrances trending now?

Floral-gourmand fragrances are exploding in popularity at the moment. As customers continue to move away from sticking to singular signature scents, we’re seeing more fragrance fans seek out hybrid eau de parfums that can be switched up, layered and changed day to day. In 2026 and beyond, lusher fruity-florals and floral-gourmands will continue to rise with innovative, envelope-pushing ingredient combinations – think exotic and tropical fruits and interesting, unique flowers.

What are the most popular floral-gourmand ingredient combinations?

Mouthwatering dessert ingredients combined with freshly-picked flowers are a winning combination. One of our favourite examples is Ylang Ylang Espresso – a decadent tiramisu accord (created exclusively for us by master perfumer Jerôme Epinette), is blended with a ylang ylang (a sweet, exotic flower), to create the most audacious fragrance. Mixing ripe, juicy fruits with light, powdery florals works well, too – forming a scent that’s daringly bright with a lingering softness.

Frequently asked...

Start by thinking about your scent preferences. Do you love light, fruity notes like pear and passionfruit? Or are you drawn to richer, creamier ingredients like vanilla or coffee? Look for a fragrance that balances sweetness with complexity. Gourmands often pair edible notes with florals, woods or spices to create a more layered, wearable scent. Don’t be afraid to test different styles until you find the one that feels like you.

While all gourmand fragrances are sweet, not all sweet fragrances are gourmand. Sweet scents may feature floral or fruity notes that feel sugary or bright, but gourmands are inspired by edible treats: think caramel, chocolate, tiramisu, or candy floss. They’re designed to smell almost good enough to eat, often with deeper, more indulgent undertones.

Gourmand scents can be worn year-round, but the time of day and season might influence your choice. Lighter gourmands with fruity or citrus notes are ideal for daytime or spring/summer, while richer blends featuring vanilla, tonka or coffee shine in the evening or cooler months. Layering also lets you tailor your gourmand for any occasion.

Many gourmand perfumes are long-lasting, especially those with deeper base notes like vanilla, tonka bean, or amber. These ingredients tend to linger on the skin, giving gourmand scents impressive staying power. However, longevity also depends on concentration (eau de parfum vs. eau de toilette) and how your skin holds fragrance.

Yes, gourmand scents are for everyone. While some lean sweeter or more floral, many blend edible notes with woody, spicy or musky elements, making them appealing across all genders. At Floral Street, we believe scent is personal, not prescribed. If it smells like you, it’s yours.
